i’m gonna go three stars, but on the upswing with potential. sidenote: i am vietnamese so i’m allowed to be judgy and picky about this. i’ve been eating these before i could walk! (i don’t really know, but you get the point.)
on to the banh mi – it was good, but the bread should have been more toasted, and there should have been more meat. i haven’t found a great banh mi place in chicago yet, but even del seouls are better and ba le’s. but maybe they’ll work out the kinks, it’s new.
i tried their spring rolls (goi cuon) – which may be one of my favorite things in vietnamese food. definitely not fresh and had been refrigerated awhile (not good to do that! it hardens the rice paper) and same problem as most restaurants, too many noodles and a lot of lettuce. :/ womp.
it’s a cute little shop, a few spots to eat in, delivery and takeout available. staff is so so nice and friendly, and it’s clean and a good mix between americanized and legit vietnamese. overall, cheap, filling, good sandwiches. it ALMOST kicked my craving, but i’m still looking for the perfect one here in chicago.
they recently started serving pho, so i’m going to have to go and try that. it’s always good to have a pho spot closer than argyle!
